What exactly is hosting?
Hosting is where your website "lives." Think of it as an apartment for your site. When someone types your address into a browser, a server (a computer that's always on and connected to the internet) delivers the page to that visitor. Without hosting, your website simply doesn't exist on the internet.
The problem is that hosting can be good or bad. Cheap shared hosting at 2€ a month means your website shares resources with hundreds of other sites on the same server. When one of them gets a traffic spike, your website slows down. It's like sharing an internet connection with an entire apartment building.
Websites I build are hosted on a dedicated server with allocated resources. No sharing, no slowdowns, no crashes because someone else's WordPress site hogged all the resources.
Why is this hosting better than the cheap stuff?
SSD instead of HDD drives
SSD (solid state drive) is a type of storage with no moving parts. Traditional HDD drives have a magnetic platter that physically spins, making data reads slower. SSDs read data up to 10 times faster. For your website, this means images, text, and code load almost instantly.
Most cheap hosting providers still use HDD drives because they're cheaper. Their savings come at the cost of your speed.
Servers in Germany, fast for Croatia
Your website is hosted on Hetzner servers in Germany. Why Germany? Because it's geographically close to Croatia, which means low latency (the time it takes for data to travel from the server to the visitor). The data centers are on par with those used by major companies, with redundant power, cooling, and networking.
Cloudflare CDN, speed for everyone
In addition to the server, every website uses Cloudflare CDN (Content Delivery Network). A CDN is a network of over 300 servers distributed around the world. When someone visits your website, content is delivered from the nearest server. A visitor from Zagreb gets the page from a server in Zagreb, a visitor from London gets it from a server in London.
The result? Your website loads fast for everyone, no matter where they are. Beyond speed, Cloudflare also provides DDoS protection, shielding your website from attacks that could take it down.
